Some people just call any hand smoking accessory a pipe, regardless of what it is. There are many different kinds like spoon pipes and Gandalf type pipes. However, some are more efficient while others are more discrete. Chillums and one hitters give you the best of both worlds.

What is a Chillum Pipe

A chillum, bat, or one hitter is a slim pipe that doesn't come with a carb hole on the side. Carb holes regulate the air flow just like a seamroller or a bong does when you take the bowl out. 

One Hitter

A one hitter pipe is exactly as it sounds, a pipe made to take one hit. You can only pack a certain amount of dry herbs in a hitter and it's best if it's ground up. It will allow for more airflow. Some are made from wood while others are made from metal or glass. Some are also made to look like a cigarette.

Dugout

A dugout pipe is different but still the same. It is a wooden box with two specific compartments. It has one part that you can store your herbs in and another which you can pack your chillum pipe in.

A bat is so easy to use. Since you only pack a small amount, you don't need to obsess over the grind level. All it takes is a pack and a light.

Cleaning your pipes will only make it more efficient. This helps even more because there is no carb hole. 

How to Use a Chillum

To start off, take a small amount of your herbs and break it down. Make sure it's not ground up too much to turn into powder. 

Pour your tobacco or herbs onto a rolling tray and press the tip into it. Check to see if it's a tight snug fit. Light up the tip and take a hit.

How to Clean it?

Cleaning a chillum pipe is as simple as cleaning any other accessory. You can either use salt with isopropyl alcohol or hot water. Soak it in either of them and let the residue melt off. Pipe cleaning supplies work even better to get the residue off.
